BUG’s Dr Andy Harrison obtains Home Office licence for fish surgery

Nov 11, 2017

BUG’s Principal Fisheries Scientist, Dr Andy Harrison, has recently obtained his Home Office Personal Licence for fish surgery, expanding our capabilities in fish tagging and tracking using acoustic and radio telemetry.

Andy is now licenced to implant tags in all freshwater fish species; meaning he can both assist with on-going projects, as well as explore opportunities for future tagging and tracking fish studies.

Acoustic and radio telemetry studies on fish populations can be invaluable for providing information such as timing of migration, passability of barriers and broad scale habitat utilisation.
